T-Birds roll to 8th straight win

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Soo Thunderbirds used a well-balanced attack getting points from 14 different skaters en route to a convincing 9-0 victory over the Blind River Beavers Wednesday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Essar Centre.

Sault Ste. Marie came out quickly grabbing a 4-0 lead after one period of play on tallies by Jaren Bellini, Matt Caruso, Mark Tassone and Brett Jeffries, who supplied a shorthanded effort.

The Thunderbirds extended their cushion to six through two as Joey Miller and Zach Senecal found the back of the net.

They then put the finishing touches on their eighth consecutive win in the final frame on two goals from Caleb Boman and a single off the stick of Drake Pilon.

Nathan Warren finished the night with 15 saves in registering his first NOJHL shutout.

Martin Miloslavich started for Blind River and suffered the loss in allowing three against on 12 shots before giving way to Maxwell Barr 8:42 in the contest.

Barr kicked out 22 of 28 in a lengthy relief stint.
