T-Birds run win streak to 7

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The surging Soo Thunderbirds reeled off the seventh consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Wednesday swamping the Blind River Beavers 9-1 at the Blind River Community Centre.

Sault Ste. Marie was all business in this one storming out to a 4-0 lead after one period of play on markers two minutes and 42 seconds apart by Matt Pinder, Nathan Hebert, Ryan Mulligan and Joe Miller.

It was more of the same in the middle session as the Thunderbirds tacked on three more to go up 7-0 after 40 minutes on efforts supplied by Matthew Busby, Darian Pilon and Caleb Boman.

Miller and Pilon added other tallies in the third to add to the offensive onslaught before Blind River’s Nathan Hans put an end to Soo netminder Brendon Gordon’s shutout bid with 5:26 remaining.

Pilon, Zach Senecal and Matthew Caruso all chipped in with two assists in the one-side triumph.

Gordon made 21 stops to pick up the win for the T-Birds, who raised their overall record to 12-1-0-0.

Martin Miloslavich started for the Beavers and suffered the loss playing the first and third periods allowing six against on 28 shots with Maxwell Barr turning aside 11 of 14 in relief as the Beavers slipped to 3-11-1-0.
