Eagles Hickey blanks Blind River

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Soo Eagles goalkeeper Jack Hickey handled each of the 22 attempts fired his way to record his initial Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout Sunday, a 4-0 decision over the Blind River Beavers at the Blind River Community Centre.

Landon Hubbard supplied the only offense Hickey would need 58 seconds after the opening face-off with an unassisted shorthanded effort.

Sault Ste. Marie added to the lead midway through the contest when Mike Winn notched his second of the season to put the visitors up by two heading into the third.

Blind River pulled starter Matt Blattenberger in the latter stages of the third period in favour of an extra attacker, but the Eagles’ Jacob Palmerio scored into an empty net with 1:28 remaining.

Bradley Hofelich then iced it 22 seconds later for the Soo to round out the scoring on the afternoon.

Chris Skinner aided the Eagles offensively cause with two assists.

Blattenberger was peppered with 55 shots in defeat for the Beavers.
