Voodoos double up Beavers at NOJHL Showcase

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos picked up two tallies apiece from Harrison Israels and Tomas Yachmenev to lead them to a 6-3 triumph over the Blind River Beavers Wednesday at the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase in Sudbury.

Each side scored once in the opening 20 minutes thanks to Yachmenev at 1:39 followed by Blind River’s Jack Rudin 13 minutes later.

Dylan McMahon then gave the Beavers the lead on an early power play marker in the second.

However the Voodoos soared the remainder of the session as they struck for four unanswered goals in under an eight-minute span to go up 5-2 after 40 minutes.

Cade Herd, Tyson Gilmour, Israels and Yachmenev all found the back of the net for Powassan in the outburst.

The Beavers’ Caleb Serre and the Voodoos’ Israels then traded offensive efforts in the third to round out the scoring.

Gilmour also chipped in with two assists for a three-point outing.
