SUDBURY, Ont. – A goal in each period helped the Timmins Rock prevail 3-1 over the Blind River Beavers Wednesday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase play at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
Timmins got the game’s first marker, seven and a half minutes in, as they broke out of their own zone quickly off a draw, then saw Brant Romaniuk wheel into the Blind River end and drop a pass to Jack Kelly, who wired it past the glove of netminder Connor Dunham-Fox.
The Rock doubled their lead in the back half of the second stanza when Alexis Tremblay did a criss-cross move with Aaron Shaw, who moved into the Beavers’ end and proceeded to whistle a wrister into the back of the net at 14:33.
Blind River eventually solved Timmins’ goaltender Graham Gee with 1:24 remaining in regulation after breaking out of their own end with speed, which resulted in Keenan Conn driving hard to the crease and steering in a crisp feed in front by A.J. Saadeh.
The Beavers then got Dunham-Fox out in the final minute for an extra skater, but the Rock’s Ryan Armitage picked off a play in the neutral zone then put it into the empty net to secure the victory.
