Powassan rallies to edge Blind River in OT

POWASSAN, Ont. – A Michael Silveri tally 2:57 into overtime helped the Powassan Voodoos rally from a 3-0 deficit to upend the Blind River Beavers 4-3 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Blind River got off to a great start in this one grabbing a two-goal lead in the opening period.

Alex Kidd put the Beavers in front 9:03 into the contest with an unassisted effort.

The 12th of the season for Ted Davis put the visitors up by a pair at 15:10 as they took the lead into the middle session.

Early in the second, Blind River went up by three thanks Cole Murray at 1:41, which resulted in the Voodoos replacing starter Mario Cavaliere in favour of Garrett Forrest the rest of the way.

The goaltending change seemed to spark Powassan as they came back with their first of the night three and a half minutes later on a Jake Staples marker.

Eric Champagne brought the Voodoos even closer midway through period as he collected his 14th overall.

In the third, Champagne popped in another netting the equalizer with 9:23 remaining in regulation and sending the game to extra time.

Silveri then completed the comeback for Powassan in OT as he buried a Francois Lemelin feed to win it for the home side.

Forrest handled all 21 shots he faced in relief to record the win for the Voodoos.

Cavaliere saved 13 of 16 in nearly 22 minutes of work.

Matt Blattenberger was peppered with 57 attempts against in net for the Beavers in the OT setback helping them earn a point on the night.
