NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that the forward duo of Owen Fergusson (Espanola Paper Kings) and Mason Svarich (Timmins Rock), along with defenceman Andrey Manov (Blind River Beavers), have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending December 17.

A three-game road swing during the time frame saw Fergusson lead the way offensively in a trio of victories, during a four-day span.

In all, the 19-year-old from Bancroft, Ont., racked up a dozen points, on three goals and nine assists, and also notched a shootout tally, to pace the Paper Kings in away wins over Greater Sudbury; Elliot Lake and French River.

With 70 points on the season now, Fergusson has taken over the NOJHL scoring lead and will enter 2024 having etched him name on the game sheet in nine straight outings.

In come from behind triumphs versus Iroquois Falls and Powassan, the 20-year-old from Stony Plain, Alta., was a contributing force in both affairs.

Svarich started by scoring once, and setting up another, in a win over the Storm Friday, then tacked on two more, to go with a couple of helpers, as the Rock rallied past the Voodoos, Saturday.

Having scored goals in each of his previous seven match-ups, he also has a 10-game point streak on the go.

Supplying four assists last week, Manov’s contributions helped the Beavers extend their current season-high win streak to 12 in a row.

Two of the helpers dished out by the 19-year-old blueliner from West Vancouver, B.C., came on game-winners in back-to-back results over the Soo Eagles and Elliot Lake Vikings.
