SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Dryden Riley (Timmins Rock), along with forwards Owen King (Blind River Beavers) and Lucas Signoretti (Greater Sudbury Cubs) have been named its BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending March 9.
Dryden Riley, (G) Timmins Rock: Backstopping the Rock to a pair of road victories over the weekend, Riley’s efforts helped Timmins pick-up four points and gain a slight edge in a quest for home-ice advantage in their upcoming first round playoff series against the Soo Eagles.
Sharing the NOJHL lead in wins with 21, the 17-year-old netminder from Belleville, Ont., added two more triumphs to his totals by picking up decisions at the Soo Thunderbirds and Soo Eagles. In all he posted a 1.50 goals-against average and a save percentage of .958 during the time frame.
Now in his second-year with Timmins after manning the nets for the Greater Kingston Gaels U16 program, Riley leads all league goalkeepers in average (2.34) and sits second on both save mark (.923) and shutouts (3), while being tied for top spot in wins.
Owen King, (F) Blind River Beavers: Making Blind River history, King became the initial Beavers’ player to score 50 times in a single season as well as the 41st all-time in NOJHL history to do so.
In establishing the accomplishment, the 18-year-old goal-getter, who hails from Cambridge, Ont., and starred previously with the Oakville Rangers U18 AAA squad, tallied eight times, including notching a pair of hat tricks, to take over the NOJHL lead in markers. He also dished out a pair of assists along the way.
King finished his regular season with a league-best seven hat tricks and currently sits in second spot in overall offensive production with 75 points.
Lucas Signoretti, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs: Another impressive run for the NOJHL’s scoring leader saw Signoretti surpass the 100-point plateau for a second consecutive season.
In all the 20-year-old from Kanata, Ont., whose last minor hockey organization was the Honeybaked U16 side, found the back of the net three times and doled out eight helpers for a league-best 11 points.
On a nine-game heater, Signoretti will enter the Cubs final regular season contest Thursday, needing three points to become the 10th player in NOJHL history to reach 300 in his Jr. A career.
