SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Noah Tegelaar (Blind River Beavers); forward Mathieu Comeau (Hearst Lumberjacks) and defenceman Chris Innes (Greater Sudbury Cubs) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending January 14.
NOAH TEGELAAR, (G) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS: Posting back-to-back shutouts in his two starts last week, Tegelaar continued his torrid pace, as has his club, with Blind River now having won 17 straight games.
The 17-year-old rookie from Georgetown, Ont., extended his league-lead in shutouts to five by blanking Elliot Lake, along with high-scoring Espanola, in home-ice victories Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Tegelaar, who has won each of his past 13 appearances, presently tops all NOJHL netminders in wins (20); goals-against average (1.88); save percentage (.933) and shutouts (5).
MATHIEU COMEAU, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS: Leading the Lumberjacks offensively, Comeau scored and picked up assists in triumphs over division rivals Kirkland Lake and Timmins in the time frame.
Skating for his hometown Hearst side, the crafty 18-year-old centre had an earlier helper, then went end-to-end to notch the game-winner in overtime versus the Gold Miners before setting up a marker, then adding a tally off after winning a draw, in a triumph against the Rock.
Through his first 141 NOJHL games, Comeau has collected 126 points on 46 goals and 80 assists.
CHRIS INNES, (D) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS: The veteran blueliner did his part at both ends of the ice last week, aiding in a pair of wins for Greater Sudbury.
Innes dished out three assists in all, including one on the deciding tally in a narrow victory at French River Sunday, while helping bolster the Cubs’ backend as well in a result over Powassan, Thursday.
With points in five straight, the 20-year-old Sudbury product has moved into the Top 10 in scoring among NOJHL defencemen with 25 points in 24 contests played. He’s also tied for fourth in point-per-game average among rearguards at 1.04.
