GALLERY: Blind River blanks Kirkland Lake

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Owen King and Wyatt Gibson both tallied twice, while Connor Dunham-Fox registered his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout Saturday, as the Blind River Beavers went on to blank the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 6-0 at the Blind River Community Centre.

After Kirkland Lake had an early marker waived off due to obstruction of Dunham-Fox, the Beavers came back to open the scoring seven and a half minutes in.

On the tally, Owen King notched his team-leading 21st goal as he was sent in down the left side, on a sharp head-man pass, where he ripped a shot past Gold Miners’ netminder Caleb Shuker.

Staying that way into the second period, King then collected his 22nd by converting midway through the match-up after snagging a loose puck in the neutral zone, then darting down the right wing on a two-on-one where he elected to shoot and made no mistake with a sizzling wrister.

Going up by three, Blind River’s Gibson raced in and wired his chance over the glove of Shuker, on a delayed penalty.

Extending their cushion moments into the final session, the Beavers’ Keenan Conn pumped in a Gibson feed, that came from below the goal line.

Putting the game out of reach, Kalyn McQueen and Gibson both roofed shots from the left circle to help secure the home-ice triumph and round out the night’s scoring.

The victory raises the Beavers’ record to 18-9-1-1 and with the road setback, the Gold Miners fall to 2-25-0-2.
