BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers got a pair of goals from captain Caleb Serre to help lift his side to a 4-1 triumph over the visiting Hearst Lumberjacks in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.

Blind River came out quickly and gained the early edge as they skated out to a 3-0 cushion before the match-up was 15 minutes old.

Serre, with his league-leading 35th, started the home side’s early offensive outburst two and a half minutes into things as he converted on a man advantage opportunity.

The Beavers then went up by a pair at 8:51 when Devon Savignac reached the 20-goal plateau on the season while also getting the eventual game-winner.

Not done there, the home side tacked on another before the opening frame was complete thanks to Blake McNally at 14:39.

The clubs tightened up defensively through the rest of the first, all of the second and half way through the third.

Midway through the final session, Serre scored once more at 10:03 to put the hosts up by four with half a period to play.

Hearst would eventually dash Blind River netminder Jackson Hjelle’s shut out bid with 8:55 remaining as Spencer Silver put in his 13th of the year with his side on the power play.

That was the night’s final marker though as the Beavers wrapped up the win.

Chipping in with two assists each to aid the Blind River offensive cause was Conrad Solypa and Kyle Quinn.

Shots on goal finished up 34-31 in favour of the hosts with Hjelle earning the victory while Liam Oxner suffered the defeat.
