GALLERY: Young’s 3-point night helps lead Blind River over Espanola

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers saw Brendan Young score once and add a pair of assists to help lift his club to a 5-1 triumph over the Espanola Express in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.

First period play saw the Beavers collect the lone tally, via the power play, as Young buried his team-leading 23rd at 7:48.

On a man advantage again to carry over to the second stanza, Blind River scored just seven seconds after the puck drop as Caleb Serre and Ryan Mulligan combined to set-up Justin Mauro.

The hosts then went up by three in the latter stages of the middle frame on a Nathan Balkwill.

Espanola did get one back though, before the session was complete while up a skater, as Mitchell Lee notched his ninth with help from Hunter Halcrow and Chase Lammi.

Third period play saw the Beavers add some insurance with five and a half minutes remaining as Ryan Peck picked up his 16th goal of the season to extend a modest point streak to three.

They then finished things off offensively in the late going on Ethan Graham’s eighth at 18:42 to conclude the scoring.

Garret Boyonoski finished with 25 stops to pick-up the win in net for Blind River while Joel Rainville faced 47 shots in defeat for the Express.
