Wildcats remain unbeaten in preseason play

ELLIOT LAKE – Shane Woolsey scored three times and set-up another to help the Elliot Lake Wildcats claw past the Blind River Beavers 8-2 Tuesday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason contest at Centennial Arena.
Improving to 3-0 in exhibition action to date, the Wildcats jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on markers by Woolsey and Alec MacKenzie.

Bryce Campbell got the Beavers on the board midway through the first only to see Elliot Lake answer back with two more from Spencer Allen and Chad Lopez to go up 4-1 after 20 minutes.

Blind River made it 4-2 8:58 into the middle session as Niiban Nashkawa finished off the efforts of Mark Suchy and Alex Kidd, who drew assists on the play.

The home side countered that by tallying twice before the second was complete to make it 6-2 on markers by Nathan Campbell and Woolsey.

Elliot Lake then put the game away in the third as Woolsey finished off his hat trick 45 seconds into the stanza while Lopez rounded out the scoring with his second of the night with 2:23 to go.

Connor Rider doled out three assists to aid the Wildcats offensive cause.

Allan Menary made 20 stops to post the win for Elliot Lake while Max Barr was peppered with 51 shots in defeat for the Beavers.

Next up on the league exhibition slate has the Cochrane Crunch taking on the Timmins Rock Thursday evening in a neutral site affair in Kapuskasing. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
