Pair for Erwin as Eskis double up Beavers

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Jacob Erwin had a pair of second period goals, which included the game-winner, helping the Iroquois Falls Eskis double up the visiting Blind River Beavers 4-2 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Jus Jordan Arena.

Iroquois Falls got out of the gate quickly in the contest as they opened the scoring just 30 seconds in thanks to Dante Juris.

Blind River came right back and tied it just over a minute later when Cole Murray tallied for a third straight game.

The Beavers got another on the next shift with Mark Khull making it a 2-1 game.

Erwin knotted the score early in the middle frame and then picked up the eventual decider at 7:12.

Blind River battled hard in the third in an effort for the equalizer pulling starter Matt Blattenberger late in favour of an extra attacker, but Iroquois Falls iced it with an empty netter from captain David Osborne with 70 seconds left to round out the scoring.

Matthew Camilleri started for the Eskis, but only played just over six minutes, stopping one of two, before giving way to Joe Sheppard the rest of the way.

Sheppard picked up the win making 24 saves in relief.

Blattenberger handled 32 of 35 attempts in defeat for Blind River.
