NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Noah Metivier (Greater Sudbury Cubs); forward Reyth Smith (Powassan Voodoos) and netminder Noah Tegelaar (Blind River Beavers), have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending March 31.

NOAH METIVIER, (G) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS: Backstopping the Cubs to three straight victories, including the final two that were both shutouts, saw Metivier and Greater Sudbury complete a series win against the Soo Thunderbirds.

The 20-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., product had a league-low 1.51 goals-against average during the time frame, along with a .938 save percentage and the pair of shutouts.

Metivier will enter the West Division Final versus the Blind River Beavers on a streak of 121 minutes and 53 seconds without allowing a goal.

REYTH SMITH, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS: The Voodoos standout first-year forward paced Powassan with six points in three games, aiding in their East Division semifinal triumph over Hearst.

The crafty 16-year-old, who hails from Windsor, Ont., scored three times and dished out as many assists, including one on the overtime winner in Game 3 as part of his week.

Riding a five-game point streak heading into the East Final with Timmins, Smith leads all NOJHL rookies in postseason production with 10 points, featuring a half-dozen markers.

NOAH TEGELAAR, (G) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS: Facing a trio of must-win scenarios last week, Tegelaar did just that in helping the Beavers storm back from a two-game deficit and knock off the upset-minded Espanola Paper Kings.

Registering a 1.76 average to close out the series with Espanola, the 17-year-old from Georgetown, Ont., also had a league-best save mark of .949.

Including regular season play, the NOJHL’s Rookie of the Year and 1st Team All-Star in net now has 31 victories, to pace all goaltenders in 2023-24.
