Long’s late marker lifts Elliot Lake over Blind River

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A Nick Long goal with 3:01 remaining in regulation was the difference as the Elliot Lake Wildcats held on to pullout a 4-3 victory over the Blind River Beavers Friday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Centennial Arena.

The Wildcats got things going offensively in the latter stages of the first period as Brett Crook collected his ninth of the season at 17:12.

Elliot Lake added another before the stanza was complete thanks to Jacob Kelly with 19 seconds remaining.

Special teams then allowed the home side to go up by three as Long scored on the power play 5:43 into the second.

Blind River got on the board less than three minutes later thanks to a Zac Lambrecht man advantage marker.

The Beavers’ power play kept clicking in the third as they notched a pair of man-up markers off the sticks of Yianni Liarakos and Dylan McMahon to knot the affair at 3-3.

The Wildcats regrouped however and got the game-winner from Long to secure the victory.

Matt Kostiw made 28 saves to record the decision for Elliot Lake.

Myles Hektor started for Blind River, but was replaced by Aidan Doak after allowing three against on 14 attempts while Aidan Doak suffered the loss in relief after giving up the difference maker and facing eight shots.
