Iroquois Falls erupts early in triumph over Blind River

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The Iroquois Falls Eskis came out quickly grabbing a 4-0 lead in the first period and never looked back as they skated to a 7-3 triumph over the Blind River Beavers Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Jus Jordan Arena.

The Eskis’ offensive barrage began seven minutes into the contest as Dillan Bruce converted on a man advantage opportunity beating Blind River starter Myles Hektor who saw a streak of not allowing a goal snapped at just over 127 minutes.

Iroquois Falls kept coming as Shadow Reuben scored on the power play at 10:33 and then again at even strength just over four minutes later.

The home side’s offensive outburst continued with Jay Sidhu getting in on the action at 15:29.

David Osborne’s eighth of the season 24 seconds into the middle session made it 5-0 before Zak Lambrecht got the Beavers on the board at 11:15 of the stanza.

Bruce’s second of the night and 10th overall with 4:20 left in the frame made it a 6-1 count after two.

In the third Blind River opted to start Drew Gregory in favour of Hektor and the Beavers began with a Mark Bastianello marker at 5:20 to pull the visitors to within four.

However Iroquois Falls team captain Osborne added his second of the evening 58 seconds later before Yianni Liarakos rounded out the scoring for Blind River with 3:06 left.

Josh Dejulio dished out three assists to aid the home side’s cause.

Trevor Hawkes made 42 saves to record the win for the Eskis.

Hektor suffered the loss for the Beavers allowing six against on 24 attempts while Gregory stopped five of six in relief.
