GALLERY: Eagles’ Benedetto blanks Beavers for 1st NOJHL shutout

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Soo Eagles goaltender Joseph Benedetto stopped all 28 shots he faced to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout Sunday to help his side blank the Blind River Beavers 3-0 Sunday afternoon at the Blind River Community Centre.

After a scoreless first frame, Sault Ste. Marie notched the eventual game-winner five and a half minutes into the second stanza as Owen Shier notched his initial league tally after finishing off a Caleb Wood feed.

Moving on to the third period, the Eagles got some insurance courtesy of Ari Lerman, who also picked up his first NOJHL marker, at 14:33.

Wood then iced it with an empty netter late to secure the road triumph.

Alec Schwab chipped in with a pair of assists for the Soo in the win.

Maxim Sidelnik faced 21 shots in defeat for Blind River.
