BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Mathieu Morin scored twice and helped set-up another as his three-point night led the Greater Sudbury Cubs to a 5-2 decision over the Blind River Beavers Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Blind River Community Centre.

Greater Sudbury got going just 2:14 into the proceedings as Morin banked one off a skate from an attempt behind the net that skipped back past Blind River netminder Jeremi Delaquis.

The Beavers came back to level the proceedings before the first frame was complete as Hayden Webster forced a turnover then finished off a play with teammate Andrew Tsosos.

Heading to the middle stanza, Morin put the Cubs back in front at 8:17 when the guests snagged a clearing attempt and wired one in from the left circle.

Seth Coulter then provided the eventual game-winner by taking a cross-ice pass during a power play and whistling one from the left that flew past Delaquis.

Replying before the period ended, Johnny Ramoundos scored in his NOJHL debut by taking a feed in front and lifting it over the glove of Greater Sudbury goaltender Joel Rainville.

The Cubs put the game away in the third though as they tacked on a pair of tallies to secure the road victory.

Ben Harris made it 4-2 at 9:15 as he put one through Delaquis from the left circle.

They then finished it off with Kyler Campbell’s league-leading 20th in the late going as he picked the pocket of a Blind River defender then quickly whipped one in from the top of the crease with 3:45 left.

Rainville was busy, making 38 saves to earn the victory while Delaquis saw 36 attempts put his way in defeat.
