BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers saw Camden Cowan tally twice and help set-up another in guiding his side to an 8-2 triumph over the Iroquois Falls Storm in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Sunday matinee at the Blind River Community Centre.
The Beavers were quick out of the gate, staking themselves to a 2-0 lead before the contest was five minutes old.
Gibson Baker got Blind River going 67 seconds in when he banged in the rebound off a Cowan chance that came about after a turnover deep in Iroquois Falls territory.
Next was a man advantage effort off the stick of Ethan McLean at 4:43 when he notched his initial NOJHL goal as he roofed a shot from the left circle on Storm starter Alex Hall.
Adding to their lead later in the session, Caleb Walker made it 3-0 as he raised in a loose puck laying in the crease.
Iroquois Falls got one back before the first intermission while up two skaters at 17:38 when Colin Chesnut pumped one upstairs on a five-on-three from the right of recently acquired Blind River goalkeeper Justin Sullivan, who was going up against his former club.
Action in the middle stanza saw the visitors pull to within one when Owen Goodwin hit the ice on a line change then snagged the puck in the right circle and fired it through the legs of Sullivan at 14:08.
Answering that, Cowan banged in back-to-back markers moments apart late in the session to put the Beavers up 5-2 after 40 minutes.
On the initial effort, Blind River moved a play ahead after a draw in their own end that led to Cowan collecting a Jonah McIndoo pass and firing it over the glove of Hall.
Then just seven seconds later, McIndoo pushed the play ahead off the centre-ice face-off and raced into the Storm zone before sending the puck through the crease where a hard-charging Cowan jammed it in.
Adding some insurance in the third, the Beavers’ Wyatt Jarratt shovelled in a rebound off a Shyler McGahey chance in close.
The home side then put it away via the power play at 10:56 when McGahey cruised down the right wing and ripped a rocket off the back bar and out.
Capping it off, Danny MacDonald scooped up the leftovers in front and lifted it in inches from the goal line during a man advantage effort to round out the scoring.
