Blind River’s Doak’s sensational 57-save effort blanks Soo Eagles

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers received an impressive 57-save effort from goaltender Aidan Doak to record his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout and help lead his side to an impressive 6-0 win over the Soo Eagles Friday at the Blind River Community Centre.

Blind River took control of the contest early erupting for four first-period goals starting with Rockford Copiskey’s first NOJHL marker 89 seconds into the contest.

Zak Lambrecht’s 22nd of the season made it 2-0 at 2:39.

The Beavers continued their outburst with tallies from Yianni Liarakos and Lambrecht again just over a minute apart to add to their lead.

Noah Medalsy made it 5-0 Blind River in the second while Tristen Bernard’s fifth at 18:48 put the home team up by a half dozen.

Doak did the rest in keeping the Eagles at bay in posting his initial league shutout.

Max Khull, Jacob Papesh, Anthony Pullicino and Dylan McMahon had two assists apiece for the Beavers.

Kade Phipps started for the Eagles and suffered the loss facing 25 shots in two period of work while Jack Deines stopped all nine attempts he saw in relief in the third.
