POWASSAN, Ont. – A Liam Serviss goal with 7:08 remaining in regulation proved to be the night’s only tally as the surging Powassan Voodoos won their 10th consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game Saturday with a narrow 1-0 decision over the Blind River Beavers in a hard-fought defensive battle at the Powassan Sportsplex.

A fast-paced opening 20 minutes was scoreless, due much in part to the tight-checking the clubs produced as well as the solid goaltending of starters Daniel Dirracolo and Gavin Disano for Powassan and Blind River respectively.

In the second stanza, it was much the same despite the Beavers holding a wide edge in shots on goal.

However, neither squad did score as the teams reached the second intermission still knotted at 0-0.

In the third, the Voodoos eventually broke the deadlock at 12:52 as Serviss was there in close to steer in a crisp cross-crease feed by Mitch Wilkie from along the side boards, into the open side, on a play Disano had little chance on.

The shutout for Dirracolo was his second of the season as red-hot Powassan saw their winning streak reach double digits and sees them raise their overall record to 18-6-0-0.

In the low-scoring defeat, Beavers fell to 16-5-1-2 on the season.
