SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – A Kurtis Rodgers marker midway through the third period was the eventual difference maker as the Soo Thunderbirds went on to a 4-2 decision over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at John Rhodes Community Centre.

Going to the power play, Blind River scored the only goal of the first period at 6:25 as Lucas Adams converted while up a skater with assists going to Caleb Serre and Bryan Clahassey.

It stayed 1-0 for the visitors until 12:26 of the second stanza when Mackenzie Walkington supplied the equalizer for the Thunderbirds.

On an early power play in the third, rookie forward Jacob Kovacs finished off 27th tally of 2019-20 to give the home side the lead.

However, Clahassey drew the Beavers level at 7:16 to knot the affair once more.

After that though, it was Rogers’ effort with 10:08 to play that proved to be the difference maker.

Camden Findlay then added some insurance in the final moments to round out the scoring.
