Soo Eagles upend Blind River in OT

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – A Brett Jones goal with 28 seconds remaining in the first overtime was the difference as the Soo Eagles upended the Blind River Beavers 4-3 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Pullar Stadium.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the two sides managed five goals in the second stanza, including three by Blind River.

Jake Saxton put Sault Ste. Marie on the board during an early power play at 2:34 of the session.

The Beavers then connected three times in a three and a half minute span to go in front 3-1.

It started with a man advantage effort from Brock Brown before Rockford Copiskey connected at even strength and Caleb Serre struck shorthanded.

The Eagles got one back before the session was complete when Chris Murphy picked up his 21st of the season while the hosts were up a man.

The Soo would then force extra time when they secured the equalizer at 1:45 of the third compliments of William Casey’s 15th.

In OT it was the Eagles that pulled out the win as Jones finished off the work of Adam Ostrowski and Joseph Bresingham to end it.

Jake Palmerio had a big night for the Soo as he doled out three assists on the night.

Kade Phipps was called upon to make 41 saves in earning the victory for the Eagles.

Myles Hektor helped Blind River pick up a point in the OT defeat as he made 38 stops along the way.
