Rayside-Balfour rallies to edge Blind River 3-2
BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians rallied from a two-goal second period deficit and went on to upend the Blind River Beavers 3-2 Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Blind River Community Centre.
Looking to secure a franchise-record 30th win of the season, Blind River got off to a great start grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period of play on Zak Lambrecht’s 29th goal of the campaign at 7:20 and Dylan McMahon’s 12th just over three minutes later while his side had a man advantage.
Action in the middle stanza however saw Rayside-Balfour turn the tables as they struck three times in the session in under a six-minute span.
Kaleb Peldjack started the comeback midway through the frame with his eighth overall while Evan Krassey tied it while the Canadians were on the power play at14:35.
The visitors then went in front 70 seconds later as Chad Denault supplied the game-winner and completed the Rayside-Balfour rally as he notched his 17th of 2016-17.
Canadians’ netminder Owen Johansson took over from there to keep the Beavers off the board the rest of the way and secured the victory.
Johansson finished with 22 stops in posting the win while Aidan Doak faced 36 shots in defeat for Blind River.
Brett Whitehead assisted on all three tallies for RBC in the contest.
With the result Rayside-Balfour improved to 24-20-3-1 on the season with the Beavers slipping to 29-18-3-0 overall.
