Rayside-Balfour outlasts Blind River 6-4

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Karson Massey’s first goal of the season, coming with 8:11 left in regulation, proved to be the game-winner as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians defeated the Blind River Beavers 6-4 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Blind River Community Centre.

Max Khull did get the host Beavers off to 1-0 lead 8:53 into the contest only to see Rayside-Balfour reply with a pair of late power play markers off the sticks of Kyle Liinamaa and Tristan Simm.

Each side would then find the back of the net once in the second stanza thanks to the Canadians Dylan Callaghan at even strength and Blind River’s Zac Lambrecht, via the man advantage.

A third extra man marker on the night for the visitors put them up 4-2 early in the third as Evan Krassey picked up his eighth of the season.

The two sides then traded markers on efforts from Noah Medalsy of Blind River and Massey for Rayside-Balfour.

The Beavers pulled netminder Aidan Doak in favour of an extra attacker, but Callagan scored into an empty net to ice it.

Andrew Trowbridge rounded out the scoring for the Beavers with two seconds left to wrap things up offensively.

Kris Hamlin dished out three assists to aid the Canadians in the win.

Cameron Lamour made 36 saves to earn the decision for Rayside-Balfour while Doak saw 39 shots in defeat for Blind River.
