McMahon the hero as Blind River gets by Elliot Lake in double OT

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A Dylan McMahon marker 2:39 into double overtime was the difference as the Blind River Beavers withstood a late Elliot Lake Wildcats comeback bid before prevailing 5-4 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Centennial Arena.

Blind River started strong in the contest grabbing a 3-1 lead after one period of play thanks to a pair of Owen Robinson goals and a single courtesy of Steven Khull before Evan Spencer got one back for Elliot Lake with eight seconds left in the frame.

The Wildcats moved to within one with the lone offensive effort in the second stanza, which came off the stick of Brett Crook at 6:09.

Blind River would go back up by two six minutes into the third on a Max Khull goal only to see Elliot Lake to force extra time on power play markers from Logan Freiburger and Taylor Woolcott.

After a scoreless first five-minute OT, McMahon won it for Blind River midway through the second extra session to give his side the additional point on the night.

Max Khull and Caleb Serre had two assists each for the Beavers as did Spencer and Taylor Bucsis for the Wildcats.

Both netminders were busy in the contest with Garrett Boyonoski making 49 saves in the win for Blind River while Parker Simpson faced 48 shots in OT defeat for Elliot Lake.
