Lambrecht’s hat trick powers Beavers past Eagles
SUDBURY, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers got three goals and an assist from Zak Lambrecht then had to withstand a furious comeback bid by the Soo Eagles before holding on for a 6-5 victory Tuesday afternoon in Game 3 of the NOJHL Showcase at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
The Eagles flew out of the gate netting the afternoon’s opening tally 36 seconds into the contest as Chris Murphy collected his sixth goal of the season.
Blind River levelled the proceedings before the first was complete as Caleb Serre’s fifth of the campaign at 7:16 tied it at 1-1.
The Beavers then went in from early in the second stanza just after an Eagles penalty had expired as Lambrecht gave his side the lead.
Blind River kept coming and added another five minutes later when Lambrecht struck again at 6:34.
Haiden Karnick’s first NOJHL goal put the Beavers seemingly in control at 18:08 of the session.
The Soo replaced starter Justyn Gillis in favour of Jack Deines to begin the third, but Blind River greeted him two minutes into the final frame as they went up by four as Dylan McMahon notched his first of the season.
The Eagles Brendan Schultz and Blind River’s Lambrecht traded markers after that.
Sault Ste. Marie stormed back from there getting goals from Jacob Palmerio and Chris Murphy to pull within two with 6:35 to go.
Pulling netminder Deines in the final minute the Eagles added another with an extra attacker compliments of Jake Saxton, but their comeback bid feel short as time expired.
Serre had a big game dishing out three assists joining Lambrecht in achieving four-point games.
Blind River’s Max Khull and the Soo’s Bradley Hofelich also had a trio of assists each.
Myles Hektor faced 29 shots in picking up the win for the Beavers.
Deines suffered the setback in relief for the Eagles saving 12 of 14 with Gillis facing 24 attempts in 40 minutes of action.
