Krassey lifts Rayside-Balfour to 2 OT triumph over Blind River

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – An Evan Krassey goal 66 seconds into double overtime was the difference as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians pulled out a narrow 2-1 road victory over the Blind River Beavers in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Sunday afternoon at the Blind River Community Centre.

Neither side would convert during a scoreless first period as the goaltenders’ duel affair took shape.

Blind River would get on the board early in the middle stanza as Max Khull’s seventh of the season at 2:57, during a Beavers’ power play; put the home side up 1-0, which carried right through into the final frame.

In the third stanza, Rayside-Balfour would level the proceedings at 4:39 on Darcy Winkler’s second of the season on a marker that eventually led to extra time.

The first OT failed to produce a winner, but Krassey’s effort early in the second extra session won it for the visitors as they picked up the second point on the day.

Canadians’ goaltender MacKenzie Savard turned in another solid performance for his club making 52 saves along the way to earn the win.

Rob Parenteau was equally busy in the other end as he had 55 stops in the Blind River net to help his club pick up a point in the setback.
