KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – A Camden Cowan power play marker early in the second period held up as the game-winner Friday as the Blind River Beavers went on to get by the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 3-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

A spirited opening 20 minutes saw the Beavers supply the lone tally of the session.

On the goal, Ethan McLean worked a give-and-go down the left wing with Jonah McIndoo before he buried a short side attempt on Gold Miners’ goalkeeper Glen McInnes.

Heading to the middle frame, Kirkland Lake pulled even with a shorthanded effort as Tysen Anderson outraced Blind River netminder Mason Janicki to a loose puck on a dump in deep in the zone and slid in a low shot from a steep angle.

The Beavers however went back on a man advantage right after that and saw Cowan convert as he took a feed across from Mattis Lafond and moved to the top of the left circle where he wired in his seventh of the season.

Moving to the third period, Blind River added some insurance with 5:45 to go off a nice stretch pass that allowed Gibson Baker to set-up Ryder Hill who went in, cut to his left and lifted in a backhand over the pad of McInnes.

With the win, the Beavers raise their record to 7-11-0-3 and in defeat, the Gold Miners dropped to 7-14-0-2.
