BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Evan Fraccaro’s second goal of the game, coming 40 seconds into overtime, while on the power play, lifted the Blind River Beavers to a 4-3 triumph over the Elliot Lake Red Wings in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.
The Red Wings were full marks for taking a 2-0 lead after one period of play, thanks to tallies from Matthew Shulist and Brodie Kearns.
While on the power play, Shulist scored at 13:46 when he chipped in the rebound off a nice effort going to the net by Brock McNaughton.
Just under four minutes later, Brodie Kearns added another for Elliot Lake as he knocked down a high feed then moved in and smartly picked the bottom right corner on Blind River goaltender Gavin Disano.
Coming out quickly to commence the middle frame, Caleb Minns put the Beavers on the board 39 seconds in as he neatly redirected a Ryan Cooper attempt heading towards the net.
Half way through the night, the home side tied it as Ethan Pegg calmly cruised into the Red Wings’ zone then proceeded to rip one past netminder Cameron Smith from the high slot.
Taking the lead, Blind River’s Evan Fraccaro corralled a rebound in front off a Hayden Webster chance and moved to his left before lifting it over Smith’s pad at 9:10.
Answering with the tying tally with 4:15 left in regulation, Elliot Lake’s Dayton Clarke launched a one-timer after taking a feed from the corner to knot the affair.
In OT and on the man advantage to begin it, the Beavers won it as Pegg rushed into the Red Wings’ zone, dropped it to Minns, who sent it over to Fraccaro where he pulled up and buried the game-winner with a snap shot from the left circle to end it.
Shots on goal finished up 49-44 in favour of Blind River with Disano collecting the victory while Smith’s efforts helped the visitors to earn a point.
