BLIND RIVER, Ont. – A Hayden Webster late second period tally held up as the game-winner as the Blind River Beavers went on to edge the Soo Eagles 3-2 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Blind River Community Centre.
The Beavers set the tone for the night by tallying twice in the first frame beginning with a Caleb Minns man advantage effort as he fired a shot through a partial screen from the top of the right circle.
Alexander Tingay then provided the other late in the session as he got a piece of Ethan Pegg’s point shot.
In the middle stanza, the Eagles battled back with goals just over a minute apart from Brian Fiddes and Hayden Daca.
Their first one came off a nice bounce that went their way as Fiddes put it in front while shorthanded and saw the puck inadvertently knocked in by a Blind River defender.
After that, Daca then went high blocker side on Beavers’ netminder Gavin Disano from the high slot.
Regrouping, the home side went back in front deep into the session as Webster banged in a rebound at 17:42 to make it 3-2 after two.
Third period play saw neither side convert offensively as Blind River held firm to secure the home ice victory.
Shots on goal favoured the Beavers 41-39 with Disano getting the win while Gabe Rosek suffered the narrow setback.
