SUDBURY, Ont. – The 12th and final contest at the NOJHL Showcase at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex saw the Rayside-Balfour Canadians earn a hard-fought 2-1 decision over the Blind River Beavers Wednesday evening.

Play in the first period was goaltender dominated, with Myles Hektor and MacKenzie Savard making 11 saves each.

The lone first period goal came from Mark Khull midway through the first period, who buried a rebound on a pretty play set-up by Tristen Bernard and Steven Khull.

Rayside-Balfour struck at 6:21 into the second period to knot the affair at 1-1 with Noah Serre finding twine from the high slot for his fourth goal of the season.

After two periods, the goalie-battle favoured Savard, leading Hektor in saves 21-20.

With 4:46 left to play, Ian Robbie buried Jorge Perez’s rebound to put the Canadians in front with what would be the game-winner to finalize the night’s scoring.

The shots on net finished up 34-29 in favour of the Canadians.

Of the dozen Showcase games played, nine were one-goal decisions in a tightly-contested two days of hockey.
