Eagles ice Beavers’ winning streak at 7

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – A night after having an eight-game home winning streak ended, the Soo Eagles returned to the win column Sunday as they defeated the Blind River Beavers 5-3 at the Blind River Community Centre thus ending that club’s run of seven straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victories.

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one period of play getting markers from Jacob Palmerio and Nate Harris, which were sandwiched around one from the Beavers’ Steven Khull.

Adam Ostrowski put Sault Ste. Marie up 3-1 four minutes into the middle session only to see Blind River bounce back with tallies from Dylan McMahon and Caleb Serre to tie things up entering the final frame.

The Eagles got the eventual game-winner early in the third as Rhett Rampinelli collected his 11th goal of the season at 2:53.

Bradley Hofelich then added some insurance for the Soo 27 seconds later to round out the scoring.

Harris and Jake Saxton supplied two assists each for the Eagles in the win while Max Khull had a couple of helpers for the Beavers.

Kade Phipps turned in a solid 51-save performance to post the victory for the Soo.

Myles Hektor started for Blind River and suffered the loss allowing five on 29 attempts with Aidan Doak stopping all 10 shots he faced in nearly 17 minutes of relief.
