Blind River tops French River 5-3

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers used the strength of three third period goals to defeat the French River Rapids 5-3 Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.

Austin Hickner’s marker five minutes into the contest staked the visiting Beavers to the early lead.

Blind River then made it 2-0 later in the frame when Joel Fedeski finished off the work of Jason Uhl and Max Khull.

French River cut the deficit in half with two minutes remaining in the stanza on Brett McInall’s second of the season.

Special teams allowed the Rapids to draw even in the middle session as Justin Bernthal struck shorthanded notching his initial league tally in the league at 3:40 to tie it 2-2 after 40 minutes.

Another man down effort early in the third allowed the home side to go in front as Brennan Kelly beat Beavers’ starter Martin Miloslavich.

The Beavers tied it at 5:12 of the third as Cole Murray connected on the power play to knot the affair at 3-3.

Sean Paterson’s team-leading fifth goal of the season put Blind River in front for good with 8:41 to go before Uhl iced it with a shorthanded, empty netter with a second to go to round out the scoring.

Uhl and Nathan Hans both had two assists apiece for the Beavers.

Miloslavich faced 49 shots in securing the victory for Blind River.

Alec St. Georges saw 34 attempts fired his way in defeat for the Rapids.
