Blind River earns franchise-record 30th win with victory over Rayside-Balfour

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Anthony Bastianello’s second goal of the game just past the seven-minute mark of the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Blind River Beavers defeated the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 4-3 Saturday evening to win their franchise-record 30th game of the season in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Chelmsford Arena.

The victory surpasses the previous team-best of 29 won by the club during the 2009-10 campaign.

Blind River got off to a solid start in this one with Ryder Prue putting the Beavers on the board at 3:13.

Dylan McMahon then added to the visitors lead at 9:15 as they went up by a pair and spelled an early end to Canadians’ starter Owen Johansson’s night in favour of Cameron Lamour, who went the rest of the way.

Rayside-Balfour got one back late in the first as Matthew Neault collected his 14th of the season with a minute left in the session.

The Canadians then tied it at 15:49 of the second when Cayse Ton picked up his 14th for the home side.

Blind River regrouped and went back in front in the final moments of the middle stanza as Bastianello struck shorthanded with just four seconds remaining in the frame.

Bastinello then supplied the eventual difference maker in the third before Neault notched another for Rayside-Balfour during a man advantage opportunity midway through the session.

Beavers’ netminder Aidan Doak shut the door the rest of the way to secure the team record-setting win for Blind River.

Steven Khull chipped in with two assists to aid Blind River’s offensive cause.

Doak was stellar in the triumph finishing with 52 stops on the night in registering the victory.

Johansson allowed the two against on seven shots for the Canadians while Lamour suffered the loss in relief turning aside 25 of 27 along the way.
